The Sustainable Agriculture Group (SAG) was formed in 1998 to promote agricultural sustainability by encouraging dissemination of information about alternative agricultural practices for both small and large growers in our region, South Texas. Our membership includes backyard gardeners, commercial producers of fruits and vegetables, Master Gardeners, retailers of agricultural products, Texas AgriLife Extension faculty, USDA researchers and others who share an interest in learning more about growing healthy food.
The Sustainable Agronomic Education Association (SAEA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization composed of a subgroup of SAG participants. This organization provides the legal structure that allows us to apply for grants and to accept donations to fund our activities. The Association seeks common ground between farmers and consumers to develop sound agricultural practices that emphasize natural methods to improve soil productivity and plant health. A board of directors is elected biannually from SAEA members to guide our activities and to ensure adherence to the founding principles for the benefit of all members. Membership is currently $20 per year. All funds are used to offset costs of sanctioned activities and scholarships.
